Slowly but surely, we are tackling each room in this house. From the day we…

Our Kitchen Renovation Reveal – Contemporary Craftsman
There is nothing more important to me in a home than the kitchen. I remember growing up my Mom used to get so confused because even as teenagers, we would choose the kitchen as a hang out spot. We weren’t even eating or snacking, but there was just something about sitting in a kitchen and chatting that felt SO right!
Having a kitchen that encourages that valuable time with friends and family is important to us & we kept that in the back of our minds during the design process.
I know that calling this our kitchen reveal is a poor choice of words because our renovation has now been completed for almost a year and there is no surprise coming with this post.
But, I don’t think I revealed what this space looked like prior to the reno (Eeeeek)!
By no means was this space uninhabitable, but the floor plan wasn’t functional and the style was stuck in the 90’s. I spent a lot of time envisioning what I wanted this space to look like, but it really helped to live in the current space for a few months to really get a grasp for what we wanted to do.
Here was my YES list!
White Shaker Cabinets
Subway tile
Taupe Color Scheme
Mix of stainless/antique bronze finishes
Light countertops
And… after!
My Inspiration:
Cabinets:
Our cabinets were done by Thorcraft Custom Kitchens (who also completed our cabinets at our cabin up north) we worked with a guy named Shawn and he was so great at making my vision come true. I wasn’t too picky here but had a few things on my list:
- Hide the microwave
- Large island with ample seating
- Sink, garbage, & dishwasher in island
- Statement Vent Hood
- Hidden Broom closet
Our Colors: Benjamin Moore, White Dove
Vent Hood/Island: Rustic Cherry
Tile:
Another important thing about our entire home, but especially in the kitchen was the tile choices. I might be a little biased in this department because my dad has worked at The Tile Shop for over 35 years- but I always enjoy stopping in to check out the new product and I definitely spent enough time in there deciding what to put in this kitchen.

Backsplash / The Tile Shop Imperial Taupe Gloss Subway 3×6″
*Don’t forget about grout colors! A lot of people will have the installer choose a color here, but see how the tile store grouts their samples. I went with a light grout for my backsplash, after our job was completed my contractor told me how worried he was about the grout color I picked- but he ended up loving it!
My Color Picks:
Walls: SW 7506 Loggia
Close Second: SW 7507 Stone Lion
I know that a grey color scheme is very in right now, but I sometimes think an all grey home gives off a cold vibe. I wanted some warmth in the walls. **Think about what you might want to use as an accent color. It’s too soon to pick for certain, but make sure your main wall colors goes well with what you have in mind!
My Accent Color Choices:
Burnt Orange (Copper Pot SW 7709)
Yellow (Auric SW 6692)
Navy Blue (Naval SW 6624)
My Furniture & Accessories to Finish the Look:
The biggest lesson I have learned here is to be patient furnishing the rest of the space. You don’t know what you even want or need until the space is complete. And- check craigslist for good condition items to incorporate. And of course, have fun making it your own!
